Nori Zastrow

Hello! I am Nori Zastrow, Clinical Nutritionist for The Strive. I began my health journey at a young age as an athlete and avid runner. While acquiring my undergraduate degree I became a certified personal trainer to expand on my exercise background and share my passion for health with others. I quickly learned that despite general recommendations about diet and exercise, we are all very different in the ways we approach, manage and respond to those recommendations. What worked magically for one person, often did nothing for the next. While training clients, I realized that achieving long-term optimal health was not necessarily all about food and exercise, but encompassed so many other factors.

Throughout my twenties, I tried to maintain the diet and exercise lifestyle I was so used to, however, after having children I began to struggle with my own physical and mental wellbeing. Suddenly my paradigm shifted from a sports nutrition mindset to one of healing and nourishing. I couldn’t find the help I needed and began looking into functional medicine. Slowly (over the next few years), I started to feel better, but I wasn’t the same active and energized person that I once was. In my continued search for better health, I eventually decided to go back to school for my Masters in Clinical Nutrition. This is where my journey began in helping both myself and others understand the complex relationships between the microbiome, diet, lifestyle, history, and genetics and how those relationships are connected to your overall health.

I love the concept of The Strive. While we all need goals, honing in on the “why” of your strive teaches you so much more than simply reaching your goal. In the middle of trying to heal, all I could focus on was trying to get back to where I was before I started feeling sick. It wasn’t until I shifted my perspective and began really trying to understand what was going on that I started seeing true changes in my health. I still have flare-ups on occasion, but it is so much more empowering when you can look at your health this way. Not that it’s always easy;)

Since receiving my Master’s degree, I have become a Certified Nutrition Specialist®, credentialed by the American Nutrition Association® through its Board for Certification of Nutrition Specialists™. Additionally, I have earned certifications in and utilize nutrigenomics as a tool to help clients further understand how and why their bodies may be responding to the environment around them. Creating a strong foundation for your health and wellness should be a very personalized journey. Having a detailed understanding of your goals, health history, symptoms, lifestyle, biochemical, and genetic factors can connect so many dots and often leads to more targeted treatment plans and improved outcomes. My intention is to aid clients in the implementation of any personalized recommendations to prevent and/or help alleviate symptoms associated with chronic disease and promote optimal health and longevity.

Outside of The Strive, I enjoy spending time with everyone I love! Playing outdoors, hiking, biking, running, and skate skiing with my husband, Ryan, and my three daughters brings me so much joy. I have an obsession with books and love testing new recipes out on our houseguests;)
